A working recording studio in low light
Voice & Performance · Ottawa

Coaching.

One-on-one, wherever you’re starting from.

Five ways to work: vocal technique, audition prep, performance coaching, recording prep, and songwriting. All of it taught by a working performer with credits at the National Arts Centre, GCTC, and Black Theatre Workshop. Weekly or project-based, depending on what you need.

Patient with a beginner. Straight with you about what it takes. Building something that holds, not a one-off afternoon that fades by the weekend.

One-on-One · Coaching

Lessons, prep, and stage time, built around what you’re singing next.

Who Teaches

Taught by the people doing it.

Joy Mwandemange
Instructor

Joy Mwandemange

Performance · Voice

Joy has been teaching artists since 2021, from early childhood music programs to teens in musical theatre to adult performers working toward professional credits. She currently teaches at the South Ottawa Performing Arts Collaborative and serves as VP of Lost Baggage Musical Theatre, a seven-season community musical theatre company where she oversees HR, governance, and artistic direction. She brings the same attention to a student’s first lesson that she brings to her own rehearsal room. Which is still very much in use.

Cee Zavi
Instructor

Cee Zavi

Recording · Production

A seasoned performer who has shared stages with T.I., Mobb Deep, and Azealia Banks, as well as a recording engineer who graduated from Algonquin’s Music Industry Arts program. He runs the studio side of Upstage and teaches the recording-prep and production modules: how to get takes right, work a mic, and walk into a session ready to track.
